Aung Myint
Artist Aung Myint, founder of Inya Art Gallery, was born in 1946, in Yangon. He earned a Bachelor of Psychology from Rangoon Art & Science University. It was during his days as a student at Rangoon iniversity that he started to exhibit his as a self – taught artist in, his first show in 1960.
Today, as a leading figure in Myanmar’s contemporary art scene Aung Myint is often called the father of Myanmar’s Modern Art demonstrating versatility as an artist beyond painting with performance and sculptural works.
Throughout his career, Aung Myint has participated in numerous group shows in Myanmar, Asia Pacific and around Europe. Further, he has held 16 total solo shows in Myanmar, Germany, the United States, Japan; he has held multiple solo shows in Hong Kong and Singapore.
In 2002 He earned both an ASEAN Art Awards and Myanmar Art Awards for his Mother & Child series which typically utilizes one or two unbroken lines of black acrylic in a gestural form, done atop canvas and traditional Shan paper.
His works are featured in notable private collections in Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Germany, The Netherlands, Hungary, Australia, The United States, France and elsewhere.
